Growth Killer: We’ve Never Done It That Way Before

"We've never done it that way." You know what I'm talking about. Maybe you have some people in your church that have that attitude. Maybe you had some people on your staff, on a committee, on the board, an elder, a trustee, or maybe you struggle with this. This whole idea of "we've never done it this way before," and what's going on is we get stuck in a rut. Really the only difference between a rut and a grave are the dimensions, right? A grave is six feet under, and a rut you can live in day after day after day.

"Ryan, listen. We've never done it this way. I'm a little scared. I've got people that are scared. What if we fail? What if things don't work right? What if it rocks the boat?"

Listen, if you want to keep your ministry from growing, just stay comfortable and keep everybody comfortable. If you want your ministry to grow, you've got to be willing to try new things. If you want your ministry to stay exactly where it's at, because every ministry is either growing or declining. If you don't want your ministry to grow, have this attitude, "well, we've never done it that way before, so."
