Challenge Your Volunteers
It's easy to assume volunteers are already busy, so I don't want to give them too much stuff. Yes, volunteers are busy. We talked about this the other day. It's easy to get into the mindset, "Well, I'm paid. I should do the hard stuff. I need to do the time required, the time-demanding stuff. I need to do the most challenging stuff." And yes, maybe you are paid and there are things that really only you can do and you should do.
Here's a secret: people with high capacity and people that have high-capacity giftings in their life, they want high-capacity challenges and if they are bored, they might bolt. Volunteers that are bored have a tendency to bolt and they have a tendency to dart and to leave. So you want to give them a challenge. Your best volunteers need to be challenged. You don't want to keep them in the same spot, doing the same mundane things week after week after week. Give them challenges. Don't be afraid of those challenges. They will actually respond to those challenges.
