Are You Firmly Planted on the Rock?

I'm writing this from Yosemite, California, at Yosemite National Park. I am standing on this big rock. I don't know if you have ever been there, but there are some BIG rocks there. I saw this rock, and I immediately thought of you, those of you that are reading my articles, watching my videos, or listening to the podcast. I thought about you and the journey that we take as parents, as spouses, as ministry leaders, whatever you do day after day after day. What are you standing on?

I remember as a kid ... doesn't seem like we sing it at church much anymore, but as a kid we used to sing that song, β€œOn Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.” If you know Christ as your Savior I know that you know this truth. But let me remind you right now that you are standing on Jesus Christ, the solid rock when you listen to His voice, and when you obey what He says.

Remember the story in the New Testament of the man that built his house on the sand. You have probably sung this song with your kids before and the rain came down and what happened? There was no foundation, and the house blew away. Then there was another man that was a wise man, and the scripture says he built his house on a rock. The winds and rain came, and the house stood still.  Jesus went on to say the difference between the two, the one that built his house on the rock is like the one that listens to what He says and obeys.

Maybe you're going through a difficult time in your life, maybe with a child; maybe with your spouse; maybe with your boss; maybe it's with a co-worker; maybe there are some political things happening at your church right now or in your company or your place of work. Let me remind you to make sure that your feet are planted firmly on the rock. Spend time in God's word. Listen to what He says.

Don't just listen to what it says. That's the easy part. The challenge: obeying what he says. Make sure you listen and you do. You trust and obey. I'm throwing out the old songs today. You trust and obey because there's no other way, right? I believe in you, and I want for you a bright future and great days ahead. One of the keys to making that happen, especially in uncertain times, is to make sure your feet are on the rock.
