Give Thanks... In Everything?

Hey, what's up, guys and girls? I love scripture, and I need to love it more. I know we all do. None of us love the scripture quite like we should, but I find the older I get, the longer I walk with the Lord, that the more I fall in love with His Word.

I'm going to tell you, it's not always easy. I think you can probably relate to this. You've read those passages of scripture where you are wondering, "What on Earth? What the heck does that mean? Or how could that be there? I don't get it." You have questions, and sometimes, it can even create anxiety or anger. There are even verses, and I'm not just talking Old Testament, even in the New Testament, you're like, "How is that possible?" Example, 1st Thessalonians where its says, "give thanks in everything." In everything? I don't know about you, but if I wrote that scripture, if I was the apostle Paul, I probably would have said, give thanks in most things. But everything?

It's easy to give thanks... when you get a raise. When the money's there to pay the bills, when you have enough volunteers on Sunday; when your sales are coming in like they need to come in; when your kids are well behaved; when a new grand-baby is born, but then there are times when it is not as easy to give thanks.

Yet it is so important.

Why would God say to give thanks in everything? Because He knows that it is best for us. Friends, I've been talking a lot lately about gratitude. If there's anything I want for you, it's this: I want you to live in gratitude.

Gratitude will keep you going. Gratitude will keep you in the right mindset, in the right perspective. You want to get to the point where you give thanks for everything. I'm amazed when I see people that are fighting battles that nobody should have to fight with their health and their relationships, yet they have the ability to give thanks because they understand something that only comes from the Holy Spirit of God. When you learn to give thanks in everything, you learn to take your eyes off your problems and focus them on the Lord.

It takes a movement of the Holy Spirit. It takes a submission to obey His Word. When you do that all of a sudden, those problems may change. I'm not saying that they're easy, I'm not saying that they're going to go away, but I'm saying your perspective changes if you can give thanks in everything. Why? Because this is the will of God and Christ Jesus concerning you and me.

I'm thankful for you.

Question for you: what's something you're really struggling with right now, my friend? Maybe it's something in your job, maybe it's something with one of your kids, or in your marriage, or in your ministry; maybe it's with a boss, or a pastor, or a board; maybe it's a diagnosis in your life, or in the life of someone that you love, is it one of those thing? Can you get to the point where you read the scripture, you submit yourself to God's Word, you ask the Holy Spirit to empower you and fill you, and to help you give thanks in everything? Give thanks in everything.

When you do that, you'll find that your reliance upon the Lord skyrockets. Your perspective changes. Your outlook changes, and your life will be better, as a result. I don't have this down perfectly in my life, but I'm telling you, it's something I want for me. It's something that I want for you. I want you to learn to give thanks in everything.
