Your Family Matters
Let me remind you of something today: that is, your family matters. Your family matters. At the end of the day, if you have all of this huge ministry success and you've lost your marriage or you've lost your kids, what’s the point of it all?
Andy Stanley reminds us that you have two very unique roles and they are to either be a husband or wife, depending on whether you're a guy or a girl, and to be either a mom or a dad, depending on if you're a guy or a girl. A lot of these other things we do could actually be done by other people. So don't sacrifice your marriage or your family for your ministry. Make sure you keep that a priority. We're talking about family ministry a lot this month and I want to remind you about the importance of your family today as we begin this talk.
Don't forget the importance of your marriage. Don't forget the importance of your role as a father, as a mother. Make sure you keep that a priority. At the end of the day, my kids could care less how many people follow me on Twitter. Beth, my wife, is never going to read my resume. My girls are never going to read my resume. If there's somewhere I want you to be so so famous, it's at home with your spouse and with your kids.
Make sure that you are keeping your own family first. You have heard it said over and over again, don't sacrifice your family on the altar of ministry. Please, please, please, I beg of you, don't do that. Here’s something you can do. Really look at your schedule, because at the end of the day I can tell you your priorities and you can tell me mine by looking at my calendar and by looking at how I actually fill my day. Am I keeping my family first? Do they know that they are priority, not because of what I say, but because of the way I live, because of the way I schedule!
