What Are You Thirsting After?
I don't know about you, but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and I'm thirsty. I've had pizza the night before or something solid, and I wake up in the middle of the night thirsty, or I've been outside working and I'm just dying of thirst. Did you know that thirst is one of the greatest and strongest motivators in human life? Because you need water to survive, and people will do anything to get something to drink when they are thirsty. Your thirst is very powerful. It's not only powerful in your human body, but it's also powerful in your personal life, in your spiritual life, in your ministry life, in your work life, and your relationships. Let me ask you a question. Are you thirsting for the right things? Are you thirsting for the applause of people, or are you thirsting for the applause of the one that really matters the most?
Are you thirsting to be noticed or are you thirsting to serve? And you're not as worried about being noticed or getting the credit? Are you thirsting for the things of this world, or are you thirsting for things of eternal value? Are you thirsting for more of the Lord in your life, or are you thirsting for these temporal things that will one day fade away? Your thirst is so powerful because it drives you every day. So I want to encourage you friends to remember and to evaluate what you're thirsting after. We know the Lord wants us to thirst after Him. Are we doing that though? We actually need to stop from time to time and really look at our lives. What am I thirsting after? Am I thirsting after the approval of people? Am I thirsting after temporal things?
Am I thirsting after being noticed and getting credit? Or am I really thirsting after the things that God wants me to thirst after? Your thirst matters. So pray, spend time with God, and ask God to help you this week. Ask God to help you today to thirst after the right things because what you are thirsting after is what you will pursue. Friends, I want for you, I want for me, I want for my wife, for my girls, for the people in my church, I want us all to thirst after the right thing because those are the things that matter the most.
