Praying For the People (& Other Things) You Need

Pray for the right people. Pray for the right people. Well, Ryan, I thought you were going to teach us new stuff. Well, you know what? This is so obvious yet so overlooked. Here's the thing, friends, don't forget the calling of ministry, that ministry is a calling. You want to have people serving in your children's ministry that feel a calling to those kids, to those babies, to those four year olds, to those 14 year olds. You want to pray that God would send the right people to join your team at the right time.

Here's the truth:  you are better off with a few people that are the right people than a lot of people who are the wrong people. You're better off with a few people who are the right people than a lot of people who are the wrong people.  We've all had this, we've all had the wrong people on our ministry team; at least I assume you have. I know I have, and having the wrong volunteers, the wrong people on your ministry team will literally cost you. It will cost you. Now, it may not cost you money. I know in the corporate world, if you hire the wrong people, it will cost you money. I read an article a couple of weeks back in a magazine that in the secular corporate world, that on average if you make a bad hire, it is going to end up costing you a year's salary because of how you've got to clean up the mess and train somebody new.  In children's ministry, it may not cost you money, but if you have the wrong people on your team, it will cost you a lot of stress, right? It'll cost you a lot of headaches. It'll cost you lost sleep, it'll cost you problems, it'll cost you messes that you have to fix.

So you need to pray, "God, would you send the right people?" And here's what I want you to do. I want you to pray specifically, pray specifically for the right people and pray specifically for the needs that you have. If you need somebody in the second service in the four year old class, begin to pray, "God, would you give me the right person? Lead me to the right person for second service, four year old class." If you need nursery workers on Saturday nights, "Lord, would you give me four nursery workers for Saturday nights?" If you need a new Awana commander,  "Lord, would you lead me to the right person who can lead this ministry?" Pray for the right people, pray specifically for the right people, and let me add one more thought friends. Get other people praying with you, right? Don't go at it alone. Get other people praying for you.

Your #1 fan,

Ryan
